MINUTES FROM THE July 2003 MTG OF SCPCG

7/19/03
Meeting called to order at 11:20 am

Demo by Arlene McNeely on Wire Wrap Jewelry using the Coiling Gizmo & Wig Jig.

There were 12 members in attendance.

Books from the book order were distributed at the meeting. If you did not attend the July meeting and have ordered books, please plan to attend the August meeting. Check should be made out to the guild.

Bead Bazaar – Sept 13, Holiday Inn, North Haven, exit 12 off of 91. Best quality work only. When you consign your work you are agreeing that it is original work. 20% consignment fee to the guild. 10% if you work a shift at the guild booth. Sharon brought some of the cards for mounting your beads. She also brought masters if you prefer to copy onto gray card stock yourself. She will also bring the cards to the clay day. The cards have the guild logo and info on them. Place your beads on wire, punch 2 holes and thread through the back. Put your price on the back according to the instructions. If you want to include any personal contact information, you may do so on the back. Diane has agreement forms and inventory sheets. BEADS ARE DUE TO DIANE BY SEPT 7TH. If you have any questions please contact Diane. Volunteer sign-ups for the Bead Bazaar will be at the August meeting.

BOH – The 2 workshops Arlene organized went well and were well received. The guild is working on a tip sheet for running BOH workshops. Some ideas: bring pre-conditioned, pre-cut sheets of clay, precut cane slices. This is very helpful with shorter workshops or workshops with people who need assistance. Kemper cutters are useful. Tissue blades are not generally a good idea. Bring clean bottles, no tops, ignore the labels, they do not need to be removed. It helps to bring a variety of sample bottles of similar techniques, not just really gorgeous artistic bottles. Samples from previous workshops. If there are people who don’t want to make BOH, have them bag & tag. If you are using blades try marking them. Pearl-ex can also be a great technique for BOH used over textured clay.

Class tips: put non-skid mats under the work surface sheets to keep in place. Deb has the BOH workshop box and will be going through it. The guild will purchase any necessary supplies to keep the box stocked. We will try to get Lynne to work on the pasta machines. Please donate ends of canes.

The BOH workshop box is available for any guild member who is hosting a BOH workshop. It can also be available for rent by guild members who are teaching as long as there is no conflict. Also any supplies, which are used, would need to be replaced.

Diane is trying to set up a BOH workshop at Gilda’s club in Seattle before Ravensdale.

Sandra has volunteered to help Terry with the distribution of bottles at Yale.

Name Tag Swap – Name Tags are due at the Aug meeting. Lettering can be done by transfer, rubber stamp, gel pen, cut outs, liquid clay.

Slides of BOH were shipped off to Lark. Sharon picked the best slide of each piece.

Diane is teaching Foiled Polymer Clay at Guilford Oct 11, 1 pm - 4 pm and Millefiore – Beyond the Basics Nov 22, 10 am-4 pm.

Deb will be teaching in Clinton again this fall.

Raffle Chain; Sandra made a lovely hand painted Christmas ornament. Diane Villano won the raffle and will be providing the next raffle item.

Sandra & Arlene will bring snacks for the August meeting. Wendy will bring snacks for Sept.

Traveling Exhibit – if you are setting up the exhibit at any of the libraries, you need to call in advance and set up an appointment to do the installation. Wendy will help set up in Wallingford in August and Sandra will help with North Haven in Sept.

The meeting adjourned at 2:05 pm.
