===== Minutes

MINUTES FROM THE JULY 2005 MTG OF SCPCG
7/16/05

Meeting called to order at 11:43 am

Demo by Loreen on “Triangle Canes”

About 12 members in attendance

We had a small meeting in June with a demo by Lynne on using Milk Paints with polymer clay

There are 6 guild members going to the new Mass/NH retreat, Klay Karma Aug 5-7. They’ll give a report on the retreat at the August meeting.

2006 Retreat: Discussion of possible dates for the 2006 Clay ConneCTion retreat. We are going to try for the 3rd weekend in July, which is July 14-16 2006 in order to have a bit of time between our retreat and Ravensdale for those members who might like to attend both. If we can get that weekend we will reschedule the regular guild meeting to July 8th. Ravensdale will be August 6-12, 2006. Rates at Quinnipiac have stayed the same, but we will have to carry additional insurance for the event.

Diane & Libby had fun at Bead & Button. Congratulations to Christy and Libby for placing in the Bead Dreams competition.

Bead Bazaar – September 10th, North Haven Holiday Inn. Lynne explained the basics of how the commission arrangement works. Members price their own work. The guild takes 20% commission on sales unless you work a shift at the show in which case commission is 10%. There are so many members who participate, please make the emphasis on QUALITY versus Quantity. Bead Sets and focal beads sell the best. Finished jewelry does not sell well at this event. We should be in the same location with our usual double booth. Sharon will be buying some lights for the booth this year.

Contracts and inventory forms are available from Lynne or can be downloaded from the guild website. Your beads need to be priced and placed on cards. Due to Lynne by the August meeting. 8/31 is the drop-dead date to get your beads to Lynne. PLEASE LET LYNNE KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK A SHIFT.

Please think carefully about your pricing and don’t under price. Also if you have beads that have been at the past bead sales and haven’t sold, please submit something new. We have many members and we have a limited amount of display space so please submit your very best beads.

Contact Lynne if you have any questions. Lynne has been having some problems receiving e-mail so if you don’t hear back from her post something on the guild message board or give her a call.

Raffle Chain Raffle: The raffle will be postponed until next month. Sue R will be providing the next raffle item.

BOH – We NEED volunteers to monitor and post regularly on the BOH message board and keep it viable. If you can help, let Sharon know.

Bottles of Hope brochures and bottles to cover will be distributed at Klay Karma.

Tracy received a nice e-mail from a woman who is doing BOH with a Vacation Bible School this summer.

JULIA SOBER CLASS: Oct 1 & 2. Saturday will be “Faux Enamel Reversible Pendant” and Sunday will be “Mixed Media Jewelry Construction”. You can find descriptions and details on Julia’s website: www.juliasober.com Classes are $75 each with a $5 discount if you are a CT or NYC guild member and $5 discount for National guild members.

Other Classes: Jody is teaching in Brookfield and at Zoë & Floyd’s in Seymour.

Lynne will be teaching her bracelet class in Derby at the end of August and in NYC in September. She will also be teaching several classes in November at Clay Quest.

Diane is teaching regularly at Michaels in North Haven. She has a picture frame Molds class on 8/21 and she will also be teaching classes at Clay Quest.

Loreen brought up the Hearts for Heroes Project. Check out the Polymer Clay Central board or PCJ on Delphi for details. They are getting 1,000’s of requests for small polymer clay hearts that go to servicemen & women overseas and at VA hospitals.
