Class with Grant Diffendaffer April ?????
Totally Textured Beads
Marie Harriman would like to bring Grant Diffendaffer back for another class,
and would like to know who would like to attend the class before going forward with booking Grant.
Please read the description and let us know if you’d like to attend:
Learn to make fabulous organic textures that wrap seamlessly around beads and leave little
evidence of the method of their creation. In this class, the student will learn techniques for
creating texture molds with polymer clay and simple common tools that are probably lying
within your reach as you read this. You will learn to transfer this texture to cylindrical, spherical,
and disc shaped beads leaving nary a fingerprint, and without distorting the form of the bead.
What's more, you will learn to turn raw polymer clay on a lathe. This is like a cross between
turning wood and throwing ceramic clay on a wheel. Not only can you create ribbons, bands,
and sensuous curves, but you can also fold the clay over and create partially enclosed, or hollowed
out spaces. Lathe turning can be done with a simple electric drill. It opens new frontiers in forming,
patterning, and finishing polymer clay.
We will explore the possibilities opened up by multi-stage curing. We will delve into color and pattern
within the clay as well as surface treatments. Lastly, we will cover finishing by sanding and buffing.
You thought sanding and buffing was laborious? With a lathe, all you do is hold the sandpaper and the beads sand
themselves. Students will leave this class with finished beads, beads in progress, and more ideas than they know what to do with.
We will be changing the way we lend books and tapes from the library.
Instead of charging per each loan, we will request a deposit check for $30. Members will be able to
borrow 2 tapes and books at each meeting. The check will only be cashed if the tapes or book are not returned.
Check will be returned, uncashed, at the end of the year.
If materials can't be returned at the following meeting, please make arrangements with the Librarian (Sue Rankin)
(New members will be able to borrow materials at their 2nd meeting)
Membership is Jan. to Jan and dues of $15 are now due along with the request for 3 beads for the 2005 Beadstrand
