===== Minutes

SCPCG Meeting April 21, 2007

13 members in attendance

Meeting began with a demo by Diane Villano – “Mica Magic”.

Discussion about SCPCG Library: who has items out, what magazines we should subscribe to (Ornament was requested), and what other items people would like to see in the library (Metal Clay and Mixed Media Jewelry by Sherri Haab was suggested).

Recap of the Clay Weekend at St. Paul’s on March 3rd and 4th.

Discussion of the SCPCG class coming up: Libby Mills is in contact with Tracy Holmes and Dan Cormier about doing the “Better Beads” workshop in the fall (October 6th and 7th ). Details are being worked out. Libby made a motion that we donate a spot at the workshop as a raffle item at Klay Karma in order to generate more interest within the Massachusetts guild. Motion was approved.

A Clay Day was proposed for June. St. Paul’s has been reserved for June 9th.

Bottles of Hope are needed and a request was made that members make them and bring them in to be distributed. Deb Goodrow agreed to look in to getting bottles directly from the manufacturers. BOH now has a contact in Europe (Netherlands).

Raffle Chain item was donated by Judy DeCaro – a covered pen and pencil set. Libby Mills won the raffle and will donate an item in June.

Discussion about marketing your craft work: Brookfield Art Center has a class. Also, the Art Business Institute (ABI) gives seminars on this topic. Artripeneur.blogspot.com is an online resource as well.

Entries to the “Wire Challenge” were presented and paired with their creators. Next challenge will be offered at the May meeting by Deb Goodrow.

National Guild news:
The new website is up.

The submissions to “Progress and Possibilities ’07” have been sent to the judges for consideration. There were 82 artists and 207 entries submitted this year. Scores should be back by June 1st with the artists being notified by the end of June.

The National Guild will hold their conference in February 2008 called “Synergy” in Baltimore. The conference will include lectures and demos, products, vendors, and networking. It will not be a hands-on claying conference this time. The Baltimore Guild is planning on holding a three-day clay workshop the weekend before.

Upcoming Demos:
May – Lynne “Photographing Your Work”
June – Loreen Ressler (TBD); July – Karen Tenny (TBD).

Upcoming classes:
Diane is teaching her “Fish Pendant” class at Libby’s house on May 5th, cost is $60.

Jenn Dorion sent the message that anyone wanting to put a link to their website from the SCPCG website should contact her with the information at dgthree at ducknrun.com

Deb Goodrow has lined up libraries in which to display the Traveling Exhibit through the fall. The exhibit is currently at the Hamden Miller Memorial Library through the end of May.

Meeting adjourned at 2:30pm.
